Feedback:
Beth’s main achievement this year has no doubt been the development from scratch of our new framework to support the signal-driven strategies of the future. I’ve been extremely impressed by the overall quality of the project which she has carried out almost singlehandedly:
Through thorough and detailed analysis as well as good communication with her peers, she has managed to quickly develop a great understanding of the existing framework we have as well as its limitations, both functional and technical. She then turned those limitations into a vision made of clear objectives for the new framework which included (amongst others): simplicity and speed to code and backtest new strategies, testability, extensibility to handle new business demand such as new asset classes, more sophisticated investment strategies, ability to hold positions overnight, as well as handling of special events such as market disruption and internal trading restrictions.
Beth then executed on this vision using her deep experience and excellent software development skills, which she has showcased to us on several other projects since she joined the team. She also demonstrated a great ability to take technical feedback onboard, from Kevin and myself while all 3 of us were reviewing the code and design of the framework. It has been a great pleasure to brainstorm and bounce ideas off each other.
In my opinion, this new framework, though not finished, has been built with the right objectives in mind and with a very solid technical foundation and I’m convinced this will eventually help the desk generate a lot more revenue than they previously could.
Beth has worked very hard throughout 2022 to make this framework a reality, but even more so in the last few weeks to get the project over the (production) line under pressure, as a client trade on a brand new strategy running on the new framework is now looking imminent. It’s not only me that has been impressed: the desk has made it clear how satisfied they are with the delivery of such an important new type of strategy under such short notice.
There is more to say about Beth’s strengths but I’m running out of characters allowed and I’d like to keep something new and nice to say for next year. But one thing is for sure: since she joined us, Beth has become one of the technical and leadership pillars of this team. She is highly respected by all her peers and the software has enormously benefited from her software development skills.
